Structural Integration is based on Ida Rolf's finding and scientific research. SI has been further developed by Thomas Myers in the 1990's. Structural Integration focuses not on the muscles but on their protective layer, called fascia (connection tissue), and the deeper layers of fascia through the muscles. Muscles are contracting tissues that give the body and organs physical movement. The fascia gives muscles their shape and the body structure.
Structural Integration re-aligns the tissue of the body by balancing and re-positioning superficial and deep connective tissue. Myofascial Release works with the deep layer of fascia which are stuck or held in compensatory positions. The continuing pull of gravity, stress of daily activities and physical injuries can pull the body out of alignment. This creates inefficiency and imbalances resulting in stiffness, discomfort, pain and loss of energy.

What is involved?
To begin; a detailed history will be taken, and goals are discussed. Photos are taken in your underwear, shorts or bathers, which is a snap shot of your current posture. Body reading is completed. This work will be coupled with movement education, which focuses on the individual holding patterns that may be impacting the body’s ability to function and move with ease. Much of the session work is done on the treatment table, some seated on a bench or active standing movements.
Structural Integration is a very personal process. No two people are alike. While SI is focused on physical changes, it does affect the whole person. We are all made up of emotions, attitudes, belief systems and behaviour patterns as well as the physical being. It is all related to our evolution!
It is a project on your health that we work on together. Be prepared to feel light, better balanced on your feet, taller, increased breathing capacity, increased energy, and improved alignment. A new sense of ease in the whole body.
